Stefanie Dipper holds the Chair of Computational Linguistics at the Linguistics Department. Her work focuses on developing methods and resources for analyzing historical data, particularly data from Middle High German (1050–1350 CE) and Early New High German (1350–1650 CE). Key results of this work include a series of corpora, such as the Middle High German Reference Corpus (ReM), the Anselm Corpus, and the Sermon Corpus. Additional resources include guidelines and tag sets for the normalization of historical spelling variation, for part-of-speech tagging, and for dependency analysis. Currently, her research group is using these data for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of metaphors, employing both automated and manual methods.

Stefanie Dipper studied general linguistics, computer science, and psychology at the Universities of Tübingen and Geneva -- what would be called computational linguistics nowadays. After completing her PhD at the IMS in Stuttgart, she held postdoctoral positions at the University of Potsdam and Humboldt University in Berlin before joining the RUB, first as an assistant professor and, since 2013, as a full professor of computational linguistics.
