Linked Data Methodologies in Gandhāran Buddhist Art and Texts

CERES Palais, room "Cordoba" (3.06)

The Pelagios working group “Linked Data Methodologies in Gandhāran Buddhist Art and Texts” brings together scholars, curators, and Digital Humanities specialists. This workshop is an important step in developing a set of guidelines and best practice examples for publishing and linking resources, fostering interoperability between currently unrelated institutions and activities. The work concentrates on three main topics:

  1. Places: Location, toponyms and classification of archaeological sites in Gandhāra
  2. Motifs: Compilation of a standard repertory for the description of motifs and visual features in Gandhāran art
  3. Narratives: Linking instances of Buddhist narratives in Gandhāran texts and art through a shared vocabulary

In all three instances, the working group builds on existing gazetteers and vocabularies, both digital and printed. By extending those, it will expand the geographic scope of current linked data resources.
