DESCRIPTION:Word-processor formats like DOCX are a frequent source of prob
 lems because they focus on formatting instead of structured content. Forma
 ts like LaTeX\, on the other hand\, produce better results\, but are diffi
 cult to learn. Markdown is a simple\, plain-text format that allows to cre
 ate academic documents including footnotes and automatically formatted bib
 liographic references which can be converted into various formats includin
 g DOCX\, high-quality PDF\, and HTML. The online journal Entangled Religio
 ns now uses Markdown to format all incoming submissions and create the fin
 al PDF and HTML versions.\n\nSimple examples show how Markdown can be used
  to write academic texts as well as notes and presentations.
